PhD Student

I am a PhD student in Earth and Environmental Sciences specializing in Odonates.

My research is focused on the morphological variation of odonates in relationship with climate change, using geometric morphometric techniques in order to better understand their evolution and adaptation to the environment.

My aim is to contribute to the understanding of evolutionary phenomena using odonates as models.

I am a bioarchaeologist, and my research
focuses on the paleopathology of pre- and historical human populations. My
doctoral thesis concerned the problem of using skeletal injuries as a marker of
biological stress and quality of life in past human populations. I am currently
learning how to use the possibilities of geometric morphometrics in the analysis
of the variation in the anatomy of individual elements of the human skeleton
(mainly vertebrae) and their relationship with the risk of certain pathologies,
e.g. spondylolithic fractures of the lumbar vertebrae.

Postdoc (2022-2023). Now Associate Professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia

I am a vertebrate paleontologist and evolutionary biologist specializing in the use of quantitative shape analysis, phylogenetic comparative methods and finite elements analysis. My work is focused on understanding the adaptation and evolution of subterranean mammals, but also spans to the feeding biomechanics of birds of prey, brain shape evolution and skull integration in primates as well as the feeding biomechanics in marsupial and placental carnivores.
